s-l1600drp

De Rosa Mid-70s Track Bike All Chrome with Cinelli & Campagnolo Components.

Up for auction is one of the finest examples of Italian track bikes around, a handbuilt De Rosa all chrome track bike equipped with an original Cinelli Unicanitor suede saddle, Cinelli 70s chrome bars and track stem and 100% Campagnolo period components. Made in the mid 70s in Italy and engraved with the De Rosa logo on the frame. This bike was used in the 70s by a member of Milan’s track team and has been preserved in near original state since. The chrome is in excellent condition with only a small amount of pitting under the bottom bracket.

The rims have been updated to Velo Orange 36 spoke for a modern day ride but laced to the original Campagnolo 36-hole high flange hubs. New Vittoria Super Corsa clincher tires are also included and have been ridden for less than 20 miles.

This original Italian racer is assembled only with 100% period Campagnolo parts as shown below. Finer details include matching yellow Campagnolo bar caps, De Rosa matching yellow pedal straps and buttons and yellow team decals from the same period.

An original track bike in excellent condition that saw action from the Milan team in the mid 70s. It is in excellent condition whether you want to ride it everyday or just stare at it hanging on your wall, either option will bring you great joy, however, we believe that bikes are made to ride and this one will last you a lifetime.

Eco Pista

Seen in the catalogue, never seen one on offer in black. We like.

s-l1600ep

I have for sale a 1981 Bianchi Eco Pista.

Seat tube is 49cm ctc
Top tube is 51cm ctc

This was one model down from their top tier track bike in the late 70s/early 80’s. This particular bike has never been ridden on the street (aside from my short test ride), and still rolls on its original Mavic sew up rims. This bike was factory drilled for a front break.

This bike shows its age with some paint dings thorough out but nothing serious and nothing down to metal. The Gipiemme group is mostly intact minus the headset and seatpost. The current seatpost is a cheapie kalloy, and the headset is a mix of a few things but works very well. If you’re looking to restore the bike gipiemme components are way cheaper than campy stuff. The correct post usually runs around 40 bucks and the headset around 60.

The cockpit is currently set up with scratched Cinelli 65-40 Crit bars attached to a 90mm Cinelli 1A. Classic track setup for smaller riders. The crit bars are just a smaller version of the Cinelli 67 pista drops. *If you would prefer I can ship the bike with almost brand new nitto B125 NJS track bars and a nitto pearl 9. But I think the Cinelli cockpit is way more fitting for this bike.

Reader ride: Ken in SC’s 1983 Guerciotta Pista

24393379912_b47967a92d_h

Ken writes thusly:

Here is the 1983 Guerciotta Pista after I restored it to my liking. I spent the last 6 months looking for a vintage track bike to make into my regular fixie. I enjoy taking an occasional fixed gear ride on our local Swamp Rabbit Rails to Trail which stretches about 13 miles from downtown Greenville, SC to just past Travelers Rest, SC.

You can review the ‘before‘ album to see this bike before the work. I had to free both a frozen stem and seat post. I’m looking for a 27.2mm Campy seat post (destroyed during removal) to replace the 26.8mm currently installed with Coke can shims.

I repainted the yellow lug cutouts with matching yellow. Also painted the seat post flutes yellow. I had to paint one missing ray of the front head tube star decal – can you notice? The bike could easily be repainted and reproduction transfers (decals) are available but I wanted to keep the patina.

Installed a new Tange chrome plated steel headset to match the bike. Installed a black Brooks B-17 seat, Cinelli bars and stem. Retaped the bars in yellow foam tape. The Pantographed chain ring is a neat feature. Wheels are modern high flange Formula hubs laced to Alex R500 rims. I bought some early 80’s vintage Specialized Turbo/R gum wall tires. I have 4 of them as some will probably crack due to age.

Due to the track geometry it was difficult to locate a front brake caliper with a short enough reach. The bike came with the Dia Compe caliper you see (disassembled and cleaned) with a drop bolt mounted upside down so the caliper hinge is higher than the fork crown hole. This fork was drilled at the factory.

I’m ready to go ride this baby! That’s why it has clipless pedals installed.

Ken’s other bikes can be seen here—certainly, an interesting and enviable collection in a beautiful part of the country for riding.

Carlton Track

Pretty.

s-l1600cp

Very nice complete late 1960’s Carlton/ Sun Worksop track bike.
This would have been made in that brief period when
Carlton (Raleigh) was running three teams in the British Professional road/track scene.
One of those teams was Sun-Truewel, which was really the last Hurrah of the Sun brand.
From memory this team only competed for two seasons in the late sixties, at this
time they made available team replica frame sets.
